Pigeon's Ranch

Pigeon's Ranch © 2007

A Santa Fe Trail guidebook published in 1984-86, Following the Santa Fe Trail by Marc Simmons, states that in 1985 the State Highway Department announced plans to move the road away from the building. Well, as you can see from this recent photo, that work has not occurred yet, but apparently the plan is still on the table because the man at the Pecos National Historic Park visitor center told me about it when I mentioned that I had stopped at Pigeon's Ranch. It is not now marked because they are concerned about the safety of pedestrians crossing the road, with good reason - I had to wait awhile for an opportunity to cross and the speed of vehicles there is high, people could be in danger there.
